Acai berry is a small purple fruit native to the South American Amazon which has been a favorite for quite a while now. Ideally, Acai berries are organic, hand-picked, cleaned and de-stoned locally in the Amazon.

Açai’s a superfood that’s great on its own, but tastes even better with others. It’s naturally sugar free and has a super unique nutritional profile that helps you get supercharged with whole food nutrition. Stacked with healthy omegas and antioxidants, it’s traditionally blended into a thick smoothie bowl or blended with a little more liquid for a oomph-filled smoothie of killer Amazon power.
“What is Acai?”
A delicious powerhouse packed inside
Pachamama’s (Mother Nature’s) tastiest gift is purple, full of antioxidants, healthy omegas and totally vital nutrients. Often called the King of Superfoods, Açai reflects the world it comes from – biodiverse and amazing, the Amazon is unlike anything else on earth. And, for indigenous tribes, the origin story of the Amazon actually says the entire Amazon was born of a single seed of Açaí.
The Benefits of the Acai
The phytochemicals in acai berries include mainly anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. Acai berries contain more antioxidants than other commonly eaten berries. They also are high in fiber and heart-healthy fats. The antioxidanteffects of acai berries have largely been attributed to phenolic compounds.
Here are some more of the many benefits of acai berries:
* Low in sugar
* Digestive health
* Brain food
* Satiety
* Lowers cholesterol
* Anti-aging skin benefits
* Decreases menstrual pain
Will I feel any effects of the Acai right away?
As with all other super-foods, not everyone are going to feel the same effects when consuming them. For example, I did not feel any predominant effects on my body straight away. However, I like to consume it because I know it is such a good and rich source of antioxidants, which keep my body healthy and in the long term keeps me feeling good. From this you can see that you don't have to necessary feel a huge difference directly after consuming them but often just has a good effect on your body in the long term, which is also invaluable. I usually mix my Acai every now and then into my morning smoothie, which gives it a nice color but also a fresh and sweet taste. Just experiment with them and help your body by consuming these small full-packed wonder berries rich in antioxidants.
About the Plant:
Euterpe oleracea is a suckering, tropical palm from Central and South America. It is not an endangered species, and in fact, it is grown in massive numbers, primarily in Brazil. It is a relatively tall, slender palm growing up to 90 feet tall or more, though the tallest plants I have seen in cultivation were more like 30 to 50 feet in height. It’s common name is Asai, Assai, Acai, Cabbage Palm or Pina Palm. Acai is a Portuguese word that means fruit that cries or expels water. That is a bit of an odd name as the fruits of this palm, though somewhat juicy, are 95% seed matter. There are far juicier palm fruits out there in the jungles.
Uses of Acai fruit:
Acai berries are blueberry-sized palm fruits with a relatively large seed within each one. They are reddish-purple and reportedly have a slightly sweet flavor (most palm fruits in my experience do not taste as good as the native populations make them sound). The fruits are used for eating, making juice, pulp, alcohol, ice cream, medicines (diabetes, cancer, virility, skin ulcers, hair loss, menstrual pain, malaria etc.), cattle feed, cosmetic production as well as a nutritional product and commercial weight loss gimmick.
